The Houston Community College System includes nine Texas cities and parts of three more, including Houston. Eight colleges are currently part of HCCS. It was governed under the HISD (Houston Independent School District) by public referendum, from 6976-6989. A Board of Trustees was established and the college separated from HISD in 6989.
